Thank you Emails or Comments?

I’m going though my emails, my 780 emails that are just from the last few days. Many are site posting from nings, blog posts and over 40 are from replies from comments I made on blogs. I made well over 150+ comments in the last few days and I’m being flooded with emails thanking me for commenting.  Please Stop!

I’m not sure how you feel about this method but wouldn’t it be more of a “Thank you” if you would just take a minute to comment on a post or two I wrote. Isn’t it time consuming to send all those emails? How much time are you spending replying individually to all those comments? I’m not at your blog expecting 5 emails for my comments. I’m commenting because I enjoy what you wrote and want you to know your not talking to your self.  I find more of a connection with you if you’d just return the comment love and stop on by. I’d like a visit in return. If you enjoyed me taking the time to come by, helping you to up your stats,  and you’ve been to my blog that same day or the day before you can come back if you like but it’s not neccessary to send me an email unless I asked you a specific question in my comment.

I can understand if you get tons of comments and not having time to get to everyone, BUT never having time for someone who’s been to your blog over 50x’s to simply comment even 1x in the month, and you thank me with an email telling me to subscribe. I say “No thanks!” Delete! Keep the email and I won’t come back anymore. The blogisphere is I may not have time to make it to everyone but I certainly try to get to most of you.  Just curious how everyone else feels about this? or how do you thank the people who comment on your blog?

Thanks for stopping by. Have a GREAT day :)

I completely agree, I love comment love and would rather have it out there that others can see for two reasons. 1. I like the comment love 2. I love to promote other blogs and commenting makes other people notice you.

    On a side note:
Your blog has been awarded! There is an award waiting for you on my blog :

This post made me giggle … I feel exactly the same way. I do respond by email though if the comment is part of a conversation – i like that back and forth. BUT I hear ya – comment love welcome!!

  3. Ms. Latina says:

I totally agree! If its not a personal comment, not a generic thank you for posting a comment, I much rather you come visit my site. Not only will that make me feel as if you are taking the time to get to know ME just as I took the time to get to know you but you may find some other blog commenters you may want to follow!

Great post btw! AND congrats on the award from Smart Cents Mom (see perfect example of how leaving comments helps you find other great bloggers LOL)

I honestly can respond to a email faster then I can on a blog post.
As you can see I haven't been here to your blog in forever.
Of course my son is my first priority. He was in the hospital about 3 weeks ago but is better now.

  5. Cat@3KidsandUs says:

The generic thanks replies are a major turnoff. Even worse is the blogs that you the Thank Me Later plugin, it auto generates a reply to your comment. Sometimes is appears authentic but it's not, just another canned response. Irritates the hell outta me.

I usually go visit the commenter's blog and read their post and comment. I don't have time to do email replies and visit blogs but I will answer a question or reply to anything I think needs answering. I prefer to visit blogs though.

Love your blog! Discovered it as a fellow member of UPrinting! Ahh! I love your layout and just thought I would say hey! :D

  9. LADYHIGHTOWER says:

Tricia, I think some of those "thank you for commenting" are auto-generated depending on the email system that's used.Maybe I'm wrong, but I remember seeing that option somewhere.

  10. Heatherlyn says:

I think the preferred way of "thanking" for a comment is to go check out the commentor's blog and make a comment on their blog. Sometimes people will respond to a comment not by saying thank you but by actually responding in email. And some times this is interesting. I usually just respond on the blog. :)

  11. LoveMy2Dogs says:

Geez!! Ok, I will stop responding to your comments. If you don't like me then just say so! lol No, really it is a lot of work replying to comments and I like your idea of hopping over and leaving a comment instead. I think I am going to start doing that also.

    Keep up the great work.

  12. Native American Momma says:

Well, that is how I do it, if you comment I will stop by your blog and comment back. :)

  13. Lisa says:

I return all comments, I think I have 50 to return in my email. I don't hit reply to the email unless its a specific question. I return all comments by visitng any blog that comments on mine and if I like the post I coment on it. I don't just reply to the email saying thank you. I visit every blog who comments on my site though and I comment on their post!

  14. Erin M. says:

I agree with you completely. I feel like the biggest/best compliment or thank you I can get is for someone to visit my blog and comment, etc…

I'm sorry you were inundated with so many messages….

  15. Secret Mom Thoughts says:

I agree with you. I much rather have someone stop by and comment then send an email.

  16. Cassie says:

I feel the exact same way! I usually respond back via email if a question was asked, but other than that I try to go comment back on the other person's blog.

  17. Kati says:

I individually respond to emails if the person makes an interesting comment and I have something to say that can keep pa conversation going. I try not to email to just say thanks.. unless it is a 1st time visitor.

  18. Amy @ Six Flower Mom says:

Funny, I think about this too! I try to thank people if it is the first comment that they have left and to answer questions or to engage in a conversation BUT otherwise I agree … I think it is nice to just leave comments on others blog! And I love comments on mine.

I love to read blogs but honestly just do not have time so I do what I can or maybe even more importantly what I want! When blogging feels like work then I do not do it, as I am not getting paid.

On the other hand when I meet kind people and even start new friendships that is wonderful.

I honestly can not justify taking too much time away from my children to send a gazillion emails to people that I do not know. But maybe that is why my blog is small and gets much fewer comments than some. But oh well!

    Have a great day.

  19. Nicole @ BugaBoos says:

Oh and one more thing, I like when I leave a comment on a blog and that person replies to my comment, However I don't like them any less if they don't respond to my comments as I know how hard it can be to respond to each one. If I ask a question, I expect a reply but I don't just for leaving a comment.

  20. Nicole @ BugaBoos says:

I almost always send a reply to comments. I feel it let's my readers know how much I appreciate them taking the time to come and comment on my blog. I however don't return a comment with spam, such as check this out or subscribe here. My links to my blogs and website are always at the bottom of my email, but that's all in my signature. I send a personal reply to every comment I can, responding to their comment and thanking them. And if it's a blog I read, than most likely I have already been there commenting on their posts. That's just me though.
