Blogging for the last two years you learn lots of things. Many things I learn are self taught through trial and error. Several things which I have had to do 2x over because of switching platforms. Recently I was asked for help by a blogger to walk her through adding a facebook Like Badge to her Blog. Knowing that there are many of you who may wish to add a Badget to your Blog I’ve put together this little Tutorial to help you along the way. It’s a little tricky to get to the page to customize your facebook like badge so I’m not sure how long these directions will be good for because Facebook is forever changing so let’s get started!
Assuming you already have a Like Page Set up the first Step will be logging into your Facebook account. Click on your HOME page. On your left side bar (looking at the screen) you will see this. Your numbers will be different but you get the idea.

NOW click on “More” at the bottom of the list and you will see something like this but of course your topics may vary.

Look for the words “Ads and Pages” and click that. Next you will come to a page that looks like this: Look for the tab that says “Marketing” and Click it!
Your next page will look like this.
There you will see the tab that says “Add a Like Box to your Website”. Click tab. Here is where you will customize your badge. You can also rename your facebook page from here by clicking the “Create Alias” this will allow you to turn customize your url of numbers and customize it ie.. facebook/TheNightowlmama as long as the name you are choosing is available you can switch but that’s a tutorial for another day. Moving on…. For the next step you will need your Promotion Facebook Like Page URL.
You’ll paste your url in the spot above then customize for the width of your side bar. For a single small side bar I use 125 or 150. You change and try out measurements to see what looks best. 200 or 250 for the larger side bars. Now the next two buttons will determine what shows up in the badge. You can “Show faces of those” who follow you, you can show the stream, etc. Click and view what will show up in your badge and decide whether or not that’s what you like. I personally, only show faces and uncheck the rest of the boxes. Keeps the side bar neat, clean and uncluttered.
For the next step you’ll click “GET CODE”. You will then get two codes but you’ll only use one. For wordpress and Blogger I used the used the XFBML code. I’m not exactly sure where the iframe code would go but the XFBML code works just fine in both. Your not going to change the code. (Your URL appear in the spot where I wrote the words.) Right click. Highlight and copy the code.
Go to your widgets on your blog in WordPress. In blogger you will add a Gadget (html) to your side bar. Add the code there by placing the html in the box. Paste the code in the box. Click Save. Now go to your home page and see how it looks.
If all goes right your badge should look like the one on my right side bar.
Hope this helps. Thanks for stopping by.
