Another up and coming anticipation of another of Disney’s Classic Films is being released on March 1, 2011 from Walt Disney’s Vault. The super adorable and popular animated film Bambi. I always get excited when Disney releases classic’s from the Vault because the VHS copy’s I have just aren’t very good to watch. Seems like the colors are faded in the movie’s and our VHS player breaks down way too much and eats tapes so being able to upgrade the Disney classic’s to a more current technology based viewing is so exciting. I remember Bambi was the very first film that I ever saw in the large screen theater with my Grandmother. I can hear her munching in popcorn next to me. Now that I’m a Mother sharing these beautiful animated films with my children makes new memories for us to share and love Disney like I started to as a child.
Bambi Highlights
As morning light breaks across the meadow, a young deer named Bambi is born and hailed as ‘Prince of the Forest.’ Soon Bambi emerges from the thicket on wobbly legs, much to the delight of his new friends, Thumper, the playful rabbit, and Flower, the bashful yet lovable skunk. But the fun of nibbling on fresh blossoms and frolicking through the woods is only the beginning. Exploring his new world, and guided by the wisdom of Friend Owl, Bambi learns valuable life lessons with every adventure – experiencing the power of friendship, family, and love along the away.
The Making of the Film:
BAMBI was Walt Disney’s fifth animated full-length feature film which released in 1942 during World War II and took approximately five years in the making due to the exquisite artwork and attention to detail of each and every scene, character and figure. The artwork itself was created by some of the legendary “nine old men,” including Frank Thomas, Ollie Johnston, Marc Davis, Milt Kahl and Eric Larson and in order to achieve the film’s unprecedented level of realism, animators modeled anatomical studies using live animals (including a pair of fawns named Bambi and Faline) and imbued each with a uniquely endearing personality. Bambi’s delightful forest home received the same painstaking attention to detail, as background artists painted hundreds of landscapes based on extensive field research and nature photographs.

Did you know that BAMBI was nominated for three Academy Awards: Best Song (“Love Is a Song,”), Best Sound Recording, and Best Music Score of a Dramatic or Comedy Picture. It’s ranked number 3 on the list of American Film Institute’s Top 10 Animated Films of All Times. And in 2004, the movie was commemorated with a first-class U.S. postage stamp and in the 1990’s the film inspired astronomers to name a pair of asteroids after those lovable characters Bambi (October 17, 1995) and Thumper (April 20, 1993) .
Our Thoughts: Watching Bambi with my children as we cuddle under the blanket was so very special. I love how the colors in the film are so vivid they bring so much more to the film. It’s absolutely captivating. Being able to talk to my children as the movie progressed and they had questions about why Bambi lost his mom and why Bambi couldn’t stand at first and answer questions as we went along makes me feel that the movie helps them learn things too. My little guy absolutely love Thumper. He wanted to give him a hug. i don’t have to tell you what my favorite part was do I? I love the Owl. He’s super wise and all that talk about Spring and Twitterpatted I had to laugh out loud, especially when my preschool still didn’t understand what the owl was talking about and i told him Twitterpatted is when you get a girl friend. That’s when he blushed. So so sweet. I can’t wait to pick up a Blu-ray player and see the difference in the films and the extra’s.

This is one Disney Movie that my kids and I haven’t seen, so I would like to win to be able to watch it together.
Bambi is a classic movie where actual children voices (not actors) portrayed the young animals. Lauryn Blu-Ray

I remember Bambi being sad, but I also loved it. I loved a lot of the sad disney movies – dumbo and fox and the hound were among the two of my top. I’d love to win so I can add this to my DVD collection!
