This year marks the 10th anniversary of the reflection remembrances of 9/11.  A day in observance in the Chicagoland south suburbs area and more.  In my own hometown of Oak Lawn, Illinois we are hosting a 9/11 Memorial Event this very weekend.

Oak Lawn’s very own festival Fall on the Green Event is Friday, Saturday and Sunday. September 9, 10, and the 11. Fall on the Green marks the end of summer and the beginning of the school year and fall season. Hosting a free event for the Oak Lawn residents with free children activities,  craft fair, bands, beer garden, along with local food vendors you’ll sure to find tasty.

On Sept. 11 at 10 a.m at the 9/11 Memorial near the Metra train station at 9525 S. Tulley Ave. Information: www.monumentaloaklawn.com. An observance sponsored by the Oak Lawn Rotary Club.

Jim Cornelision singer of the National Anthem for the Chicago Blackhawks will be singing as we observe the remembrance of 9-11 and a dedication of the first respondents 9-11 Sculpture (made with beams for the WTC) Memorial that will find a home permanently right here in Oak Lawn. Oak lawns High School very own Spartans Band will be in attendance sharing their musical talents for the dedication memorial.

Be sure bring lawn chairs and a tissue box because it’s bound to be a moving ceremony. I’ll be there with friends and neighbors to take part in this memorial yet emotional and tearful celebration.  Hope to see you there.
