Attending the NYC Movie Premiere of the War Horse was nothing short of a thrilling and amazing race adventure for 20 Bloggers who were granted with a once in a lifetime Opportunity to attend the WAR HORSE Movie Premiere at the Avery Fisher Hall in NYC.
We were to be downstairs at 4:30pm NYC time. I was on the computer catching up on some Monday deadline promotions when I got the call. It was Marshall from Disney asking me where I was. I looked at the clock and noted it to say 3:42 pm. (this was Chicago time!) He informed me that it was 4:42p NYC time. I told him I’d be right down. I rushed through the room grabbing my dress, my nylons, shoes and purse. I never got dressed so fast in my life. I quickly arrived downstairs and hoped my dress wasn’t stuck in the back of my nylons and I looked presentable with a smile.
We stepped out in front of the Essex Hotel to catch our ride to the Premiere. 11 of us climbed into a van and waited. The 2nd van was running late and it wasn’t surprising because bumper to bumper NYC traffic is a nightmare. Finally the van arrived and we were ready to move or atleast we thought. We traveled a half a city block in about 15 minutes. One of the girls made a call to Marshall to find out that other van made a U-turn and had already arrived. We traveled up four more blocks asking the driver to make a U-turn. He mumbled something I couldn’t hear from the back seat but it didn’t look like he was making that U-turn. Jeana (I love this girl. She reminds me of me 20 yrs ago) from Crazycouponmommy.com announced from the seat next to me, “I’m getting out. Let me out. Let me out, please. You ladies can stay but I’m getting out.” As comical and nerving as the moment was I was going with her. Ready to hike up my dress, take off my shoes and run like the wind to make it to the EVENT of the Century! No amount of traffic, or a running in heels through NYC was going to keep me from meeting and seeing Steven Spielberg in person and the War Horse Movie. After all this was the whole reason we were there and we weren’t going to miss it!
We climbed out of the van and began to run losing site of one another and breaking down into smaller groups.
Running and checking GPS along the way. We had about 14 blocks to run and hoped we were headed in the right direction. There was never such an exciting moment as when we finally saw the Avery Fisher Hall and all the glitz and glam. It so exciting to see the Red Carpet, the media with camera’s flashing, the security and the man who brought us there Marshall along with other bloggers running up. You can just see the sigh of relief on his face as he smiled and was so happy to see us all arrive. As we ran up he announced your the “3rd group to arrive in the Amazing race”. Gotta love him.
The best part of the evening was sitting in the 3rd row from the stage and Steven Spielberg stepped out to talk about War Horse and introduce the leading actors. It was an honor and a privileged to be in the same room as them.
Steven Spielberg, Emily Watson, David Thewlis, Peter Mullan, Niels Arestrup, Tom Hiddleston, Jeremy Irvine, Benedict Cumberbatch, Toby Kebbell (just to name a few)
War Horse played soon after and it certainly was more than I expected. War Horse is more than a movie about a Horse and his connection to a boy who raised him. It was so emotionally moving and pulled you in. It was an adventure that swept me away while sharing a bit of history, connection between animal and people, and the hope and love that one animal can provide for so many people. I smiled, laughed out loud and cried along with many in the room. War Horse will not disappoint you.
WAR HORSE Opens in Theaters December 25.
WAR HORSE is rated PG-13 and not meant for young children but perfect for family’s with older children
