Obsession with Live Television, and Shows with Real People

Have you noticed that television has taken a turn in the last few years.  Television has gone from sitcoms and talk shows to voyeurism, Live Television, and show’s about real people.  What is it about watching real people in real life situations that really get people interested in watching?

Perhaps it’s the drama.

Perhaps it’s getting a peek into someone’s life

Perhaps it’s personality and the people.

Perhaps it’s the Motivation they offer.

Whatever it is there are plenty of shows to pull you in, get you interested and keep you coming back.
I love that Reality television shows can help you get motivated.

Show’s like NBC’s The Biggest Loser – Motivates you to lose weight

While other shows like Man Vs’ Food with Adam Richman will leave you drooling on your self and hungry.

Our family has become addicted to shows like Man Vs. Food and Chicago’s Best which showcases great places to eat in and around Chicago. We’ve  actually been to a few places they’ve showcased and tried the food they mentioned on the show and several places we’ve already been too, know and love.

We watch a lot of Storage Wars and Hard Core Pawn and plenty of Hoarders. Hoarders has become one of my favorite motivational show. It gets me in the mood to clean. Clean out closets, drawers, rooms and helping me to get rid of the clutter. This show helps me tackle my terrible habit to hold onto and keep everything of sentimental value or things I think that we may need one day but never use.

Shows like Extreme Couponing are fantastic. Gives people who would love to save money great tips on how to do so with coupons and shopping while saving money on household items they use and purchase anyway.

Other shows such as Bait Car, Cops, World’s Dumbest Criminals, Caught On Camera, and Impractical Jokers will have you laughing and sharing things you’ve seen with friends and family that will have them laughing and telling others. Impractical Jokers is a funny show that we watch faithfully every Thursday nights. Have you seen it?

Lately I’ve seem to become obsessed with the Dead Files, and Ghost Adventures.  I am watching back to back episodes and so many times I feel connected to what I’m hearing.  I’ve posted previously about things I’ve seen in the house and even posted a video of an image I video taped that was on the ceiling it was totally creepy. Thankfully that’s gone!

Then there’s the singing and Dancing shows. Like Dancing with the stars and American Idol. Shows that give people hope to win money and possibly head their lives in a different direction or get a singing career.  In the past I’ve become obsessed with shows like this but they seem to be a bit played out. Its fun to follow along and get involved in the contestants lives but too often it just because another drama episode or give you a ear aching headache .

Shows like Teen Mom seem to idolize teen pregnancy and all the drama gives me a headache but I’m sure there are many girls out there who can relate and love this show. Then there’s Jersey Shore. I have to admit we’ve watch more than our fair share of 10 episodes if not more. Their life style cracks me up. Sometimes I just wonder what in the world they are thinking then I realize…. they are thinking about the big fat checks they are pulling in for me watching!!

By the way did you hear Snookie’s pregnant and getting married. That’s actually TRUE

If you haven’t seen Tru Tv’s Impractical Jokers be sure to set your DVR. It’s one of the funniest hidden camera shows that will keep you laughing the whole 30 minutes!  It’s basically 4 guys who dare eachother to do different things and they get points for completing them. Whoever doesn’t get the most points by the end of the show gets humiliated into doing another task that they have to do.  All mostly good clean fun you’ll sure to enjoy.

There’s plenty of Reality television Show’s on Networks that feed the need to get a peek into what it’s like to walk in someone else’s shoe’s. Some are great, some are entertaining and a few are completely pointless but whatever shows you chose to watch I hope they give you the entertainment and joy to fulfill your life in some way.  I can’t wait to see what new shows will hit the networks in the upcoming years and where television will take us.

What types of shows do you watch and find motivating?

Funny story. My daughter, who is only 4 (going on 5 this month) is obsessed with Clean House, from Netflix. She is always telling me, we should call them for our house. I promise you though, our house is a typical clean house with toys and “stuff”, not crazy like theirs.

I am a reality tv junkie too! I LOVE Dance Moms!!! I also like Big Brother, Storage Wars, Pawn Stars, Swamp People. . the list goes on & on. As for Teen Mom, I do watch it but I do agree with you it idolizes teen pregnancy. Dr Drew swears that this show is working & teenagers are seeing how hard it is to be a teen mom. I call BS!! Teenagers Idolize these girls. They are famous because they had a baby at 16!! Yeah thats a successful tv show!… NOT!

  17. Courtney says:

I know I prefer watching shows about real people. For me it’s because I now (or assume) it’s not scripted and the situations the people are in can really happen. Unlike a scripted drama where the girl falls in love with prince charming after accidentally bumping him at the coffee shop, they get married in the most perfect ceremony and have a boy then a girl, have all this money and live the perfect life. Ew!

We are huge Man vs Food fans in our house. We love to visit as many of the restaurants Adam goes to as we can. We especially love to try out the hot wings to see if we are up to the challenge. Reality TV is fun!
