Nature Walk at Makinson Island in Kissimee, Florida
Hidden in Kissimmee, Florida is a beautiful island of a peaceful nature and serenity known as Makinson Island. I had the pleasure of visiting this island by boat on the last day of our DisneyGlobalEvent to attend the Disneynature Chimpanzee which turned into a Bloggers spring break and a much needed relaxing nature walk. Although very tired and exhausted the thought of a 5 mile hike didn’t sound too exciting for me but I didn’t want to miss out on a single moment of this beautiful and breathe taking adventure.
The ride to the island was not only really interesting but a photographers and a naturalists dream. We learned about the birds that flew overhead, the wildlife in the area, the different areas on each side of the Kissimmee’s Lake Tohopekaliga and about the locals.
If you take a look at the photo below you can see how high the lake gets during rainy season. The Tree’s are truly natures beauty. Don’t you agree?
Once arriving to the Makinson Island you can see that there are basic necessity’s such as a port a potty (so much appreciated by all of us), fire pit and a Lake Side Gazeebo. At site for relaxation and breathing fresh air. The Island is open to anyone you just have to be able to get there.
Starting off on the Nature walk I was ready to see everything. With camera in hand and armed with cell phone to tweet instagram photos I couldn’t wait to share my experience with all of you, friends and family.
Walking along the trail our guide point out the different trees and wildlife. The most exciting part was spotting an Eagle up in the top of the tree. Thank goodness for a zoom lens! We were told this little guy is just a baby and not a full grown bald eagle that his head won’t turn white for a while.
Then something breathtaking and beautiful happened. He took flight. I barely had time to snap a photo before he disappeared.
Now you know it wouldn’t be Florida if you didn’t see an Orange tree! This was probably almost as exciting as seeing the Eagle Soar. I’ve never seen an Orange tree.
There’s so much more to see. I don’t want to ruin it all by posting all my photo’s. I would love to bring my children here to experience it all, run in the sun, BBQ and relax. It is so important for children to appreciate nature. If your ever in Florida be sure to visit Kissimmee and Makinson Island for a experience all your own.
