Dollar General® is teaming up with Procter & Gamble® to  celebrate schools and honor teachers during its year-long “Every Day Heroes”. Currently our teachers are on strike in Chicago fighting for better education for our children. They put in long hours, pull money out of their pockets, are working their hardest to provided a quality education and school experience for our children.  My best friend is a school teacher and I know that even when she’s not at work she doing work at home. She attends meeting, buys school supplies out of her own pocket for underprivileged children in her class and has even helped them succeed in writing essays to get them into fabulous city programs with benefit like attending museums and baseball games.   The children who get taught by her are so blessed and year after year she tells me about how they come into her class no knowing and go out winners. She constantly goes out of her way and I think all teachers do.

We have had attended open house at 2 different schools this past week and all the teacher were in attendance. Not only did they teach our children all day but they were there until 8pm at night greeting parents and sharing information about this years curriculum.  They are all hero’s in our eyes.

Honor those teachers and the schools in your community.  Dollar General is offering the opportunity to win money for your school through its “Write to Win” sweepstakes. Customers ages 21 and over may visit  click on the Ads and Promotions tab and watch til the slide that features your sweepstakes appears then enter by submitting a brief essay about why your school deserves to win.

I wasn’t big on school but I did like Home-economics. Mainly because the teacher was relaxed and let us make decisions on our own.

I joined the Speech and Debate team when it was unknown, with only nine members. When I and my friend joined it started to become quite popular, and by the time I graduated there were over 100 members, and we were winning tournaments every week. I myself won Districts and went on to compete at the State level in my category. It was a great learning opportunity, and I developed skills I still use in my work today!
