New Years Resolutions Progress and Changes

BYBY_header

I’ve been implementing slow changes in our home to make a better and more positive year for our family. Keeping New Year’s resolutions have never been one of my strong suits, but after a month I’ve not only kept up on preparing healthier meals but I’ve been paying close attention to weight loss goals and helping hubby to do the same.  I’m working on organizing and de-cluttering rooms one room at a time.  It’s hard breaking old habits but we’re doing it one day at a time.

Stopping unhealthy snacking has been easier than I thought. I simply started buying more fruits, vegetables and fruit snack bars. The kids love them. Oh sure I buy the occasional bag of Sun Chips and Doritos because we all love them, but atleast we’ve cut out the empty calorie snack cakes, cookies and ice cream. Basically my children will snack on what’s there. I am not saying they won’t ever get those things again but we’ll use them as treat rewards rather than having them available every week. All in moderation, right?

Weight loss update during the month of January:

Hubby is down 4 lbs-  220 to 216
I’m down 8 lbs- 157 to 149

Exercise: Not as much as we like but we are joining the health club together this month. I’m sure this will make a huge difference in both our weight loss for the short month of February.

What we are doing differently: We’ve cut out unhealthy snacking and are eating healthier meals. We have added more meals with chicken and cut back on red meat in our diet adding more salads and side salads. We’ve also reduced portion size and do not have seconds, but added a healthy snack an hour or two after our meal. We have stopped drinking soda during the week although we both had 1 can each during the Super Bowl.

As far as de-cluttering goes I’ve already tackled the boys room in 9 hours of cleaning. Took 4 boxes and 2 large bags to Goodwill and I’m sure I can get in there and take 5 more boxes out. They just have too much stuff.  Organizing has never been one of my strong suits because I’ve been a bit of a hoarder in the past but I’m working on cleaning up this home and enlisting the kids to help me.  It can only create a less stressful environment for all of us if we are more organized.   This is going to be one of the best years yet.
